InnoSer's operation is based on responsibility, using the 3Rs concept – Replacement, Reduction and Refinement.
The concentration of breeding of genetically altered (GA) rodents will ultimately lead to less animals born compared to the current situation with identical GA breeding colonies being kept at different institutes. InnoSer's quality concept facilitates the exchange of animals between institutes without the need for rederivation, also contributing to reduction and refinement of laboratory animal usage.
Our GEMM-ESC approach is also a very effective method to dramatically reduce numbers of mice required for breeding.
Implementation of innovative techniques like the genome editing techniques using TALENs or CRISPR/Cas contribute drastically to reduction and refinement. Techniques that have potential to replace the use of animal models like organoids and organs-on-a-chip are closely monitored by InnoSer and will be implemented as soon as proven.
Corporate Societal Responsibility (CSR) is the guiding principle of InnoSer's business model. Read more under society. InnoSer spends a fair share of the profit on 4R-initiatives.
